This blog post inspired me to do something great for someone in my PLN. Details tomorrow or Monday!

I know you have been busy with classes, but I really miss reading your blogs. You kept me inspired! Can't wait until you are finished and can come back to your PLN.

Adina- I like your idea about connecting those that can't attend and wonder if we could take it a little further. Part of the Plus 1 idea, could be those that choose to go have to recruit at least one person who can't to meet online at certain times to watch live streamed conference events while backchanneling.

I know a portion of educators have to pay for things like you do, that's a big issue. But its so easy now to involve others who can't make it, and to involve them in real-time. I like your idea, going to include that in my Plus 1 model :)

This is a great idea! Having new voices in the mix is really important. I personally have to pay for any conference I attend -- no school budget $ available. Maybe this idea could be expanded in some way to include those who cannot attend in person for whatever reason. We could also make it a point to be sure to share with others (Ustream, blog, Twitter, wiki, etc) and then actively continue the conversations.

My school pays for conferences, especially if I'm presenting so that really helps.

Unfortunately cost is one of the barriers to something like this actually working. The real idea behind Plus 1 is that if you are designated to go, but can get one more person then bring someone who doesn't know about the topics and should benefit the most. If your school only has enough money for one person to go, might have to give up our seat for the greater good.

That's a great idea! The more we discuss and share, the more community is built!
I would also be interested in attending a couple of the conferences you named. I don't work for a school that necessarily is capable of providing funding to do so. Do you apply for grant monies for professional development or has your school elected and allowed you the time off to go?
